Ghosts and Spiders and Scary Stuff

HaPPy HaLLoWeeN!!!!

My kids got to wear their Halloween costumes to school this year. Here they are ready for school.

Hunter is a pirate and Kylan is a scary scar face

Hunter couldn't take his hook to school so he made one out of his finger.
Kylan couldn't wear his mask to school so we bought this scar and made his face look like he had been beaten up.

Then we made these cute ghosts and spiders for each of the kids classes.

I will post tomorrow what we do tonight. We have a full night of fun ahead of us. I hope everyone has a fun Halloween!

Flowers

Beck was so sweet the other day and funny. I let the kids play outside in the front yard and a few minutes later I heard a little knock on the door. When I opened it this is what I saw...

He had picked the last two roses off of our rose bushes and told me they were for me. What a cutie. I am not sure how he did it without getting poked by the thorns. He is such a sweetie and always tries to make everyone happy.

The Draper part of the Pumpkin Walk

As I said in my previous post, we did a scene in the pumpkin walk this year. We decided to do Batman. Here is how we did it.

It is really nice, there is a family that donate the pumpkins for the scenes. So about a week before the pumpkin walk starts they call everyone and we go and pick which pumpkins we need for our scenes. My kids love the huge mound of pumpkins.

We all gather one day and start painting the pumpkins.

Here are the kids painting the pumpkins that are going to be bombs.

Another picture with the kids painting the bombs.

Nick did a good job of painting the Joker. Here is the Joker in progress but I didn't get a picture of Nick with him.

Stephen did a good job on Batman.

You can see Joker in the background (with Nick behind him) and Two Face in progress that Nick and Randy painted.

Here are our finished heads

Joker

Two Face

Batman

We also get their clothes ready.

Batman's clothes were a wet suit that we found at DI and then we painted it all black.

A couple of days before the pumpkin walk we can start setting up our scene at the park.

First we gather some supplies

Then we paint and get the backdrop ready

We painted a city with the sky for our back drop this year.

Our back drop is almost done. Our friend Elissa helped us set up this year.

The hardest thing this year was figuring out how to hoist Batman up in the air to make it look like he was flying. Here Nick and Stephen are trying to get the rebar in the cold ground. It wasn't working very well.

It only took us about ten minutes to decide to all work together and we finally got the rebar in the ground. (on a side note: can I say that I hate my camera, sometimes the pictures turn out blurry, I am hoping to steal some pictures from Shauntae to replace my stupid blurry ones)

They finally got Batman up there, thanks to a lot of work from Stephen and Nick. I like how his cape turned out.

Here is the Joker with his body put together.

And Two Face with his body.

Here is the finished scene

One of the fun parts is most people put music with their scenes. We had 3 cool Batman songs that continuously played.

It was a lot of work but a lot of fun. We will see if we are recovered by next year to try this again.

Pumpkin Walk - lots of pictures

We love the Pumpkin Walk. It is a fun tradition. A few years ago (2003) we decided to do a scene in the Pumpkin Walk. We did a Star Wars scene. It was a lot of fun. We did another scene in 2006 (Chicago Cubs scene) and then again this year we did another scene. You can pick almost any subject you want and then you just have to use your creativity and pumpkins or squash to make the scene. I was really impressed this year with some of the scenes. This year's theme is "Calling All Heroes"

A cute fireman scene

An awesome underwater-Jacques Cousteau scene

A creative scene of Moses parting the Red Sea

A really cute fishing scene..it is really hard to see in this picture but there is water running out of one of the pumpkins into the pumpkin pond. And there were really cute fish that were made out of squash.

Micheal Phelps Olympic scene

Incredibles

Youth soccer

Veggie Tales

Cute flowers made out of squash

A turkey made out of a pumpkin and squash

Cute little pigs made out of pumpkins

A cat and mice made out of pumpkins

A peacock made out of squash

A cute horse made out of a pumpkin

I really liked this spider and porcupine

THIS WAS MY FAVORITE SCENE THAT WE DIDN'T MAKE - I really liked how creative they were with the pumpkins. This is exactly what the pumpkin walk is about.

Noah's Ark - there are several parts of this scene that I loved. One of my favorites is the elephant's rear ends.

Another part of the Noah Ark's scene

Another part of the Noah Ark's scene

There is always cool pumpkins in a barn at the end of the pumpkin walk. There is always really well carved pumpkins. This year there were really creative ones in part of it.

This frog scene was made out of beans glued to a form

This was part of the frog/bean scene. It was really neat to see how creative people are.

These were really cool. Some of the local highschool students made these pictures out of cereal.

Sorry this picture is blurry but you can see some of the cereal pictures.

I get to go back to the Pumpkin Walk on a Field Trip with Hunter's school class. He is so excited to show his class our scene.
